Abstract


This analysis is concerned with the discursive construction of state agents’ responsibility in contexts of human rights violations. We focus on a specific discursive genre, namely human rights reports. Two reports are investigated, both published during the Chilean social outburst of 2019. These reports were published by Amnesty International and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. We analyse agentivity as a discursive expression of responsibility in order to uncover contrasts in the attribution of responsibility in the descriptions of specific cases in the reports. The results suggest that the degrees of agentivity represent attributions of responsibility determined by the specific objectives of the reports.

Resumen


Este análisis se centra en la construcción discursiva de la responsabilidad de los agentes estatales en contextos de violaciones de derechos humanos. Nos enfocamos en un género discursivo específico, a saber, los informes de derechos humanos. Se investigan dos informes publicados durante el estallido social chileno de 2019 por Amnistía Internacional y la Oficina del Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos. Se analiza la agentividad como expresión discursiva de la responsabilidad para descubrir los contrastes en atribución de la responsabilidad en las descripciones de casos concretos de los informes. Los resultados sugieren que los grados de agentividad representan atribuciones de la responsabilidad determinadas por los objetivos propios de los informes.
