Resumen
A presença de imigrantes no Brasil suscitou, desde o seu
início, uma diversidade de discursos a respeito dos
benefícios e dos malefícios dessa presença para a
sociedade brasileira. Parte desses discursos apresenta, assim,
estratégias para transmitir uma postura preconceituosa e
intolerante em relação a diferentes formas de alteridade,
não se limitando, em muitos casos, à
construção da imagem negativa de imigrantes. O intuito
deste trabalho é o de examinar o uso de algumas
estratégias discursivas (como a metáfora, a
comparação e o argumento de autoridade) na
construção da representação social dos
imigrantes japoneses em um discurso produzido nas primeiras
décadas do século XX no Brasil. Da mesma forma, este
trabalho mostrará como esses recursos discursivos são
utilizados para a formação de uma
representação negativa de índios, de negros e de
judeus.

Abstract
The presence of Immigrants in Brazil produced a diversity of speeches
regarding the benefits and the harms of their presence for the
Brazilian society. Part of these discourses presents, therefore,
strategies to transmit a prejudice and an intolerant posture concerning
different forms of otherness, not limiting, in many cases, to the
construction of a negative image of immigrants. The intention of this
work (here, we intend to examine) is to examine the use of some
discursive strategies (such as metaphor, the comparison and the
argument of authority) in the construction of social representation of
the Japanese immigrants in a text produced in the first decades of the
XX century in Brazil. Likewise, this work will show how these
discursive strategies are used for the formation of a negative
representation of Indians, Blacks and Jewish.
