Resumen
En este artículo se reflexiona acerca del significado que los políticos dan a la verbalización del arrepentimiento en sus escritos o en sus entrevistas. Expresado públicamente, este acto de habla puede ser visto como un acto de debilidad o, por el contrario, como un acto de fortaleza que enaltece la imagen del que lo emite, lejos de rebajarla. Se trataría entonces de una afirmación que contiene tres actos de habla: el acto de reconocimiento de la falta, el de la propuesta de reparación y el acto de valentía que se desprende del reconocimiento público de la falta. El arrepentimiento del político se considera una estrategia discursiva de poder que permite rehabilitar su imagen. En su elaboración estratégica, el político trata de parecer sincero al tiempo que atenúa o justifica la importancia de la falta. Para ilustrar, se interpretan los significados que pueden tener diversos ejemplos de arrepentimiento tomados del ámbito público francés.

Abstract
This article focuses on the meaning that politicians give to the regrets that they verbalize in their writings or their interviews. The public expression of this speech act can be considered as a demonstration of weakness or, on the contrary, as one of strength, thereby uplifting the image of the speaker. It is therefore an assertion that conveys three speech acts: the act of assuming a fault, the act of offering an atonement, and the act of courage derived from the public avowal of the fault. The politician’s regret is considered a discursive strategy of power which allows the speaker to repair his damaged image. In this strategic elaboration the politician tries to appear sincere and to minimize or justify the importance of the fault. To illustrate, the author interprets the meanings that can be attributed to different examples of verbalized regrets taken from the French public sphere.
