Abstract
One of the functions of an ideological speaker is to spread his
ideology by means of discourse. His ultimate aim involves the
legitimization of his own ideology and the discrediting of those of
others. With this aim in mind, amongst other strategies, he employs the
tactic of ridiculing his opponent’s discourse so as to discredit
it in front of their audience. This gives rise to a discourse which is
clearly discourteous toward the person who is being talked about, given
that his or her positive image becomes tarnished. These kinds of
strategy are found to be commonplace in the examples we are going to
analyze, all of which belong to the language of radio.
Keywords: ideology, discourse, ridicule, impoliteness, face, radio language.
