entrevistas com agentes de segurança
penitenciária, acerca de seu cotidiano, na
função de disciplinadores, em uma mesma
Penitenciária do estado de São Paulo, constituem
o corpus de análise das formas de
apoderação do discurso alheio, como
estratégia discursiva participante da
construção do efeito de sentido de identidade do
sujeito coletivo "agente de segurança
penitenciária".
Almeja-se mostrar que é possível estabelecerem-se
relações entre a escolha de emprego de discurso
direto, discurso indireto ou discurso indireto livre e certos percursos
temáticos e figurativos constituintes de efeito de sentido
de três instâncias identitárias: a) a
imagem do agente como em posição de
domínio e controle da situação, em
consonância com o sistema penitenciário; b) a
imagem do agente vulnerabilizado, vítima de
doenças e associado à brutalidade e
injustiças; e c) a imagem do agente abandonado pelo governo
e sociedade, física e moralmente vulnerável,
crítico em relação à
função que desempenha, ao sistema
penitenciário e à própria disciplina
que defende, por seus atos, no cotidiano.
As diferentes imagens projetadas remetem à
construção de um efeito de sentido de identidade
oscilante, móvel, em grande instabilidade, na penosa busca
de conciliação de facetas
irreconciliáveis.

This analysis of the
interviews of Seven São Paulo prison wardens draws upon the
resources of French Semiotics. The wardens talk about their daily
routine, their actions and strategies for maintaining discipline, and
define the meaning of discipline-maintenance in the prisoners'
resocialization processes. In these interviews, reported speech is a
frequently used resource. We analyze it as a discursive strategy for
the identity construction of the collective subject "prison warden".
Connections are established between the form of reported speech chosen
(direct, indirect or free indirect speech) and certain thematic and
figural processes that constitute the meaning effect of three types of
self images: a) the warden in a position of power, in harmony with the
penitentiary system; b) the warden as vulnerable, susceptible to
illnesses and associated with brutality and injustice; and c) the
warden as someone literally abandoned by the government, physically and
morally vulnerable, critical of his occupation, of the penitentiary
system, and of the discipline he himself employs, in his actions daily
routine.
The different self-images that wardens project produce the
meaning effect of an oscillating, mobile identity, in great
instability, and in painful search for the conciliation or
unassimilating facets.
